Microsoft has issued a reminder to its customers that several editions of Windows 11 versions 21H2 and 22H2 will reach their end of servicing on October 8, 2024.
The announcement affects Windows 11 22H2 Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations, and SE editions, which were initially released on September 20, 2022. Additionally, Windows 11 21H2 Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions will also cease to receive support on the same date, marking one year since the end of service for their Home and Pro counterparts.
Microsoft emphasised that the October 2024 security update, scheduled for release on October 8, will be the final update available for these editions. After this date, devices running these versions will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates, leaving them potentially vulnerable to new security threats.
To ensure continued protection and productivity, Microsoft has stated that Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update for Windows 11 Home and Pro devices approaching their end of servicing, provided these devices are not managed by IT departments.
Microsoft maintains a comprehensive list of all products slated for retirement.
