Sun SunOS=5.5.1

Remediation

Recommended actions to resolve this vulnerability, in priority order.

  1. Remove

Remove SunOS telnet daemon from your environment.

Uninstall or remove the telnet daemon/package from affected systems if telnet is not required.

  2. Configuration

Disable the telnet service on affected hosts (stop telnetd and disable any startup/inetd entries) to prevent the denial-of-service vector.

SunOS (Solaris 2.5.1) telnet service telnet_service_enabled = false
  3. Compensating control

Block or filter incoming TCP port 23 (telnet) at the network perimeter/firewall or restrict telnet access to trusted management networks to prevent remote exploitation.

  4. Operational

If telnet must remain temporarily, monitor for denial-of-service activity targeting telnet, and stop or isolate affected hosts and services immediately if exploitation is detected before applying permanent mitigations.
