Buffer overflow in MDaemon POP server allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via a long user name.

Remediation

Recommended actions to resolve this vulnerability, in priority order.

  1. Remove

    Remove MDaemon POP server from your environment.

    Uninstall or remove the POP server component from MDaemon if POP access is not required.

  2. Configuration

    Disable the POP server/service in MDaemon to prevent remote attackers from exploiting the long user name buffer overflow.

    MDaemon POP server pop_server_enabled = false
  3. Compensating control

    Restrict network access to the POP service at the network perimeter (block or limit access to TCP ports used for POP, e.g. 110/995) and allowonly trusted IPs via firewall/ACL to prevent remote exploitation.

  4. Operational

    Monitor MDaemon for signs of denial-of-service (crashes, service restarts) affecting the POP service and implement restart or failover procedures as needed. Apply any vendor patch or update addressing this issue as soon as it becomes available.
