CVE-2012-3152: Oracle Fusion Middleware Unspecified Vulnerability

Published Oct 16, 2012
·
Updated

Oracle Fusion Middleware Reports Developer contains an unspecified vulnerability that allows remote attackers to affect confidentiality and integrity of affected systems.

Other sources

Unspecified vulnerability in the Oracle Reports Developer component in Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.4, 11.1.1.6, and 11.1.2.0 allows remote attackers to affect confidentiality and integrity via unknown vectors related to Report Server Component. NOTE: the previous information is from the October 2012 CPU. Oracle has not commented on claims from the original researcher that the URLPARAMETER functionality allows remote attackers to read and upload arbitrary files to reports/rwservlet, and that this issue occurs in earlier versions. NOTE: this can be leveraged with CVE-2012-3153 to execute arbitrary code by uploading a .jsp file.

Remediation

Recommended actions to resolve this vulnerability, in priority order.

  1. Compensating control

Restrict network access to the Oracle Reports endpoint reports/rwservlet to trusted management IPs only (via firewall, network ACLs, or WAF) to prevent remote access to the Reports Server component.

  2. Compensating control

Deploy WAF or upload-filtering rules to block or sanitize attempts to use the URLPARAMETER functionality and to block uploads of .jsp (and other executable) files to Oracle Reports (reports/rwservlet); explicitly deny requests containing .jsp upload payloads.

  3. Operational

Inspect the Reports Server filesystem and application directories for unauthorized uploaded .jsp files (and other unexpected files) and remove any found; review access logs for requests to reports/rwservlet and URLPARAMETER usage for signs of exploitation and rotate credentials if compromise is suspected.
