Published Feb 27, 2018
·
Updated

An issue was discovered in Adobe Acrobat Reader 2018.009.20050 and earlier versions, 2017.011.30070 and earlier versions, 2015.006.30394 and earlier versions. This vulnerability is an instance of a heap overflow vulnerability. The vulnerability is triggered by crafted TIFF data within an XPS file, which causes an out of bounds memory access. An attacker can potentially leverage the vulnerability to corrupt sensitive data or execute arbitrary code.

Other sources

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the parsing of the TIFF dir count attribute in XPS files. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a fixed-length heap-based buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code under the context of the current process.
