CVE-2020-36724: Wordable <= 3.1.1 - Authentication Bypass
The Wordable plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authentication bypass in versions up to, and including, 3.1.1. This is due to the use of a user supplied hashing algorithm passed to the hashhmac() function and the use of a loose comparison on the hash which allows an attacker to trick the function into thinking it has a valid hash. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to gain administrator privileges.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can exploit this issue?
An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit it; no prior account, privileges, or user interaction are required. Successful exploitation can grant administrator privileges.
Which installations are affected?
Wordable plugin versions up to and including 3.1.1 are affected. The provided data does not identify any configuration prerequisite, so affected versions should be treated as exposed.
What should teams do to remediate it?
Apply the available patch by updating Wordable to a version newer than 3.1.1. Because exploitation can result in administrator-level access, review WordPress administrator accounts and investigate unexpected account changes after remediation.
