CVE-2025-12544: XSS

Published Nov 2, 2026
·
Updated

The Publisher portal fails to enforce proper validation on uploaded SVG files, allowing users with the Publisher role to inject malicious scripts. This weakness can be exploited by uploading a crafted SVG file, which is then stored and rendered by the application.

The security consequences include the ability for a malicious actor to redirect the victim's browser to an arbitrary website, modify the web page's UI, or retrieve information from the browser. However, the impact is mitigated as session-related sensitive cookies are protected with the httpOnly flag, preventing session hijacking.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Who can exploit this issue?

An attacker needs Publisher-role access to upload a crafted SVG file. Exploitation also requires a victim to view content where the stored SVG is rendered.

2

What can the injected script do in a victim's browser?

It can redirect the browser to an arbitrary website, alter the page UI, or retrieve information available to the browser. Session hijacking is mitigated because session-related sensitive cookies use the httpOnly flag.

3

How can I determine whether I may be affected?

Review SVG files uploaded through the Publisher portal and identify whether they are stored and rendered by the application. The issue is relevant where Publisher-role users can upload SVG content without proper validation.
