Configuration
In appleir_raw_event (drivers/hid/hid-appleir.c), add a check that the input device is claimed by verifying the HID_CLAIMED_INPUT flag is set; if HID_CLAIMED_INPUT is not set (input device not claimed), do not call/use the event callback/hook to prevent NULL dereference in input_event() for malformed reports.
Linux kernel HID appleir driver (drivers/hid/hid-appleir.c) HID_CLAIMED_INPUT flag check = add check for HID_CLAIMED_INPUT and avoid using event hook when input device not associated
Configuration
Ensure that when a report with no fields is produced/added (malformed report items), it is not appended to the HID report list, since HID appleir can otherwise reach input_event() without the associated input device claimed.
Linux kernel HID core / input hook behavior (drivers/hid/hid-core.c / drivers/input/input.c) Report item handling when no input fields = do not add report with no fields to report list
