CVE-2025-38191: Linux Kernel ksmbd destroy_previous_session Null Pointer Dereference Denial-of-Service Vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ksmbd: fix null pointer dereference in destroyprevioussession
If client set ->PreviousSessionId on kerberos session setup stage, NULL pointer dereference error will happen. Since sess->user is not set yet, It can pass the user argument as NULL to destroyprevioussession. sess->user will be set in ksmbdkrb5authenticate(). So this patch move calling destroyprevioussession() after ksmbdkrb5authenticate().
Other sources
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to create a denial-of-service condition on affected installations of the Linux Kernel. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability. The specific flaw exists within the destroyprevioussession function. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a pointer prior to accessing it. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to create a denial-of-service condition on the system.
