Remediation

Recommended actions to resolve this vulnerability, in priority order.

  1. Remove

    Remove SettingsLib from your environment.

Uninstall SettingsLib from systems where it is not required to eliminate the vulnerable component.

  2. Compensating control

Restrict local access to systems that include SettingsLib: remove or disable unnecessary local user accounts, limit interactive logins to trusted administrators, and enforce least-privilege for local users to reduce the risk of exploitation until a patch is available.

  3. Compensating control

Apply host-based protections to limit what unprivileged processes and users can do with SettingsLib (for example: tighten file-system permissions and local ACLs, use OS sandboxing or containment mechanisms) to mitigate local privilege escalation paths.

  4. Operational

Monitor vendor and security advisories for SettingsLib and apply any official fixes or patches as soon as they are released. Review local authentication/authorization logs for signs of attempted privilege escalation in the interim.
