CVE-2026-101961: Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved: A specific BGP packet causes an rpd crash when an ECMP qualifier is used in an import policy
A NULL Pointer Dereference vulnerability in the routing-policy nexthop-ECMP matcher of Juniper Networks Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved allows a configured eBGP peer to cause a routing-daemon denial of service via a specific BGP packet received while a nexthop-ecmp qualifier is attached to a BGP import policy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which deployments are exposed to this issue?
Affected deployments are Junos OS or Junos OS Evolved devices that have an eBGP peer configured and use a BGP import policy with a nexthop-ecmp qualifier attached.
What access does an attacker need to trigger the denial of service?
The attacker must be a configured eBGP peer capable of sending the specific BGP packet. No additional privileges or user interaction are indicated.
What is the operational impact if exploitation succeeds?
The routing daemon (rpd) crashes, causing a denial of service. The provided information does not indicate confidentiality or integrity impact.
How can I determine whether a device may be vulnerable?
Review BGP configuration for configured eBGP peers and inspect BGP import policies for use of the nexthop-ecmp qualifier. The issue is relevant when that qualifier is attached to a BGP import policy.
