Frequently Asked Questions

1

Who is exposed to this issue?

Devices running Juniper Networks Junos OS or Junos OS Evolved are exposed when OSPF is enabled on an interface. The attacker must be adjacent to that OSPF-enabled interface.

2

Does an attacker need credentials or user interaction?

No. Exploitation is described as unauthenticated and requires no user interaction, but it depends on the attacker being adjacent to the affected OSPF-enabled interface.

3

What is the expected impact of exploitation?

A successful attack can cause a denial of service in the routing protocol daemon (rpd), resulting in routing disruption. The supplied impact information indicates availability impact only, with no stated confidentiality or integrity impact.

4

What traffic is used to trigger the issue?

The issue is triggered by specific malformed OSPFv2 packets sent to an interface where OSPF is enabled.
