Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which systems are exposed to exploitation?

Exposure requires an EVPN-VPWS service and a configured BGP/EVPN peer. The vulnerable component is the routing protocol daemon (rpd) in Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved.

2

What access does an attacker need?

An attacker must be a configured BGP/EVPN peer capable of sending protocol-valid EVPN route advertisements for the EVPN-VPWS service. No separate local privileges or user interaction are indicated.

3

What is the impact on each affected platform?

On Junos OS, a malicious configured peer can achieve code execution as root. On Junos OS Evolved, the described impact is an rpd crash.
