Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which deployments are exposed to this issue?

Junos OS and Junos OS Evolved deployments using VPLS automatic site-ID negotiation are exposed when they have an adjacent eBGP peer that can send VPLS signaling updates.

2

What access does an attacker need to trigger the denial of service?

The attacker must be an adjacent eBGP peer. No privileges or user interaction are required according to the provided severity vector.

3

What is the operational impact of successful exploitation?

A crafted VPLS signaling update can crash the routing protocol daemon (rpd), causing a denial of service. The provided vector indicates no confidentiality or integrity impact.

4

What configuration change can reduce exposure if patching is delayed?

Disable VPLS automatic site-ID negotiation where operationally feasible, since the issue requires automatic site-ID negotiation to be enabled.
