CVE-2026-102401: Download Manager <= 3.3.71 - Authenticated (Contributor+) Stored Cross-Site Scripting via 'regurl' Shortcode Attribute
The Download Manager plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'regurl' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 3.3.71 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. The injected payload only fires for logged-out site visitors, as the vulnerable login-form.php template branch is gated on !isuserloggedin(); authenticated users viewing the same page are served a different template and are not affected.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can exploit this issue, and who is affected when a payload runs?
An attacker needs an authenticated WordPress account with at least the Contributor role to inject the payload. The payload executes only for logged-out visitors who access the injected page; logged-in users are served a different template branch and are not affected.
How can I determine whether a site may contain an injected payload?
Review pages created or edited by Contributor-level and higher accounts for Download Manager shortcodes using the regurl attribute. Test suspected pages while logged out, because the vulnerable template path is only used for unauthenticated visitors.
What can be done if updating is not immediately possible?
Restrict or remove Contributor-and-higher access for untrusted users, and audit existing page content for malicious regurl shortcode values. This reduces the opportunity to add new payloads and helps remove already injected content.
