CVE-2026-102808: PX4 Autopilot through 1.17.0 NULL Pointer Dereference via sd_stress

Published Sep 29, 2026
·
Updated

PX4 Autopilot through 1.17.0 contains a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the sdstress command where the -b byte count parameter is parsed without validation before being passed to malloc() and memset(). Attackers with shell access, including through MAVLink, can supply invalid byte count values to crash the flight controller.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Who can exploit this issue in practice?

An attacker needs shell access to the PX4 flight controller. The description states that this access can include access obtained through MAVLink.

2

What does an attacker need to do to trigger the crash?

They can invoke the sd_stress command with an invalid value for its -b byte-count parameter. That value is parsed without validation before it is used by malloc() and memset(), leading to a NULL pointer dereference and controller crash.

3

What is the operational impact of successful exploitation?

Successful exploitation can crash the flight controller, resulting in a denial of service. The provided CVSS vector indicates no confidentiality or integrity impact, with impact limited to availability.
