CVE-2026-105222: alexpechkarev/google-maps through 12.16 Disabled TLS Certificate Verification via ssl_verify_peer
The alexpechkarev/google-maps Laravel package through 12.16 disables TLS certificate verification by default because the bundled config sets sslverifypeer to FALSE, which is passed to CURLOPTSSLVERIFYPEER. On-path attackers can present any certificate to intercept Google Maps web-service requests, steal the API key from the query string, and tamper with responses.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is exposed to this issue?
Applications using composer/alexpechkarev/google-maps through version 12.16 are exposed when they make Google Maps web-service requests with the package's bundled default configuration. An on-path attacker able to intercept those requests can exploit the disabled certificate verification.
Does the default configuration require changes to be affected?
No. The bundled configuration sets ssl_verify_peer to FALSE by default, and that value is passed to CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER.
What can an attacker obtain or alter?
An attacker who can intercept the connection can present an arbitrary certificate, steal the Google Maps API key included in the query string, and tamper with Google Maps web-service responses.
What mitigation is indicated if an update is not immediately available?
Set ssl_verify_peer to TRUE so that CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER validates the server certificate. This removes the insecure default described for the bundled configuration.
