CVE-2026-108066: WP 2FA < 4.2.0 - Admin+ Arbitrary User 2FA Removal via IDOR

Published Oct 14, 2026
·
Updated

The WP 2FA WordPress plugin before 4.2.0 does not perform an object-level capability check before removing a user's two-factor authentication configuration, allowing a site administrator on WordPress Multisite to remove the 2FA configuration of users outside their own site, including accounts they are not permitted to edit. On single-site installs an administrator can already manage all users, so this crosses a trust boundary only on Multisite.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which deployments are meaningfully affected by this issue?

WordPress Multisite deployments are affected because a site administrator may remove 2FA settings for users outside their own site, including users they cannot otherwise edit. On single-site WordPress installations, administrators already have authority over all users, so the issue does not cross the same trust boundary.

2

What access does an attacker need?

The attacker needs site-administrator access on a WordPress Multisite installation running a WP 2FA version before 4.2.0. No lower-privileged role or unauthenticated attack path is described.

3

What is the immediate mitigation if upgrading is not possible?

Restrict site-administrator access to trusted users, since site administrators are the roles able to exploit the missing object-level capability check. Monitor for unexpected removal of 2FA configurations, particularly for users associated with other sites in the network.
