Frequently Asked Questions
Which deployments are exposed to this issue?
All versions of Apache Cocoon are affected, but exploitation requires use of the SQL processor or the sql:/esql: logicsheets. Deployments that do not expose or use these components are not identified as affected by the available information.
What does an attacker need to exploit it?
An attacker needs a path to provide input processed by the SQL processor or sql:/esql: logicsheets. The issue stems from missing input sanitization, allowing that input to be used for arbitrary SQL injection.
Is a fix available from the maintainer?
No. Apache Cocoon is retired and unsupported, and no fixed version is planned.
What can be done if the application cannot be replaced immediately?
Restrict access to the Cocoon instance to trusted users. The stated long-term recommendation is to move to an alternative product.
