CVE-2026-109395: Ning compress-lzf before 1.2.0 Out-of-Bounds Memory Access via UnsafeChunkDecoder
Ning compress-lzf before 1.2.0 contains an out-of-bounds memory access vulnerability in the sun.misc.Unsafe based UnsafeChunkDecoder that fails to validate back-references and literal runs. Attackers can supply crafted LZF streams to applications using the default LZFDecoder to leak unrelated JVM heap memory into decompressed output or crash the JVM.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which applications are exposed to this issue?
Applications using Ning compress-lzf versions before 1.2.0 and the default LZFDecoder are exposed when they decompress attacker-controlled LZF streams. The affected decoding path uses UnsafeChunkDecoder.
What does an attacker need to exploit the vulnerability?
An attacker needs to provide a crafted LZF stream to an application that decompresses it. No authentication or user interaction is required according to the supplied severity vector.
What is the potential impact of successful exploitation?
A crafted stream can cause unrelated JVM heap memory to be included in decompressed output, potentially exposing sensitive data. It can also crash the JVM, causing denial of service.
Is the default decoder configuration affected?
Yes. The issue affects applications using the default LZFDecoder, which can select the UnsafeChunkDecoder path.
