CVE-2026-110757: Text::CSV_XS versions before 1.65 for Perl allow record splitting by writing strings used as numbers without quotes in combine

Updated

Text::CSVXS versions before 1.65 for Perl allow record splitting by writing strings used as numbers without quotes in combine.

combine and print do not check whether a field needs quotes when its value has Perl's integer or numeric flag set. Perl sets these flags on a string used in a numeric operation when it parses as a number, which allows leading and trailing whitespace. With binary set, as csv does by default, "12\n" passes a check such as $qty > 0 and is then written unquoted with its newline.

A value validated as a number can end the record early and turn the fields after it into a separate row.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which deployments are exposed by default?

Deployments using Text::CSV_XS before 1.65 can be exposed when they use combine or print with binary enabled. Binary is enabled by default for csv, so applications relying on that default can be affected.

2

What input conditions are needed to trigger the issue?

An attacker needs a value that passes numeric validation and has Perl's numeric or integer flag set, while also containing a trailing newline or other leading/trailing whitespace that Perl accepts when parsing a number. For example, a value such as "12\n" can pass a check like $qty > 0 and then be emitted without quotes.

3

What is the impact on generated CSV output?

The unquoted newline can terminate the current CSV record early. Fields that should have followed the numeric value can then be written as a separate row.

4

How can teams identify potentially affected code?

Review applications using Text::CSV_XS versions before 1.65 for calls to combine or print that serialize values after numeric validation or numeric operations. Pay particular attention to inputs that may retain whitespace or newline characters.

5

What can be done before upgrading?

Ensure values treated as numeric cannot contain leading or trailing whitespace, especially newline characters, before passing them to combine or print. Upgrade Text::CSV_XS to version 1.65 or later when possible.
