CVE-2026-112274: libtins through 4.6 Out-of-Bounds Read via DNS::soa_record::init

Published Oct 19, 2026
·
Updated

libtins through 4.6 contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in DNS::soarecord::init that allows remote attackers to read past buffer bounds by supplying SOA data lacking NUL terminators. Attackers can feed raw SOA RDATA without a zero byte to applications using the buffer constructor, causing strlen to overrun the heap buffer and possibly crash.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which deployments are exposed?

Applications using libtins' buffer constructor to process remote-controlled raw DNS SOA RDATA are exposed if an attacker can supply the SOA data.

2

What input is required to trigger the issue?

The attacker must provide SOA RDATA with no zero byte/NUL terminator. This can cause a strlen call to read beyond the heap buffer and may crash the application.
