CVE-2026-112276: Netpbm through 11.16.00 Heap Out-of-Bounds Read via rasttopnm Colormap
Netpbm through 11.16.00 contains a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in rasttopnm that allows attackers to read heap memory by supplying Sun rasterfiles with short colormaps. Attackers can craft colormapped rasterfiles with pixel bytes exceeding the palette length to leak up to 255 adjacent heap bytes into the PNM output or crash the program.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which installations are affected?
Netpbm versions through 11.16.00 are affected when rasttopnm processes colormapped Sun rasterfiles.
What does an attacker need to exploit this issue?
An attacker needs to provide a crafted colormapped Sun rasterfile with a colormap shorter than the pixel values it contains, and have that file processed by rasttopnm. No privileges are required, but user interaction is required.
What is the potential impact of processing a malicious file?
The flaw can disclose up to 255 bytes of adjacent heap memory in the generated PNM output. It can also crash rasttopnm.
