CVE-2026-114570: WordPress Core <= 7.0.2 - Authenticated (Contributor+) Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Quick Edit

Published Oct 22, 2026
·
Updated

WordPress Core is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Quick Edit in all versions up to, and including, 7.0.2 due to insufficient escaping of user display names. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Contributor-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a higher privileged user accesses the affected administrative screens. This issue only affects sites with a large number of users.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which sites are actually exposed to this issue?

Only WordPress sites with a large number of users are affected. Exploitation also depends on having users with Contributor-level access or higher and higher-privileged users who access the affected administrative screens.

2

What access does an attacker need?

An attacker must be authenticated and have at least Contributor-level access. They can inject script through a user display name using Quick Edit.

3

What happens after a successful injection?

The injected script is stored and executes when a higher-privileged user visits the affected WordPress administrative screens. This can expose or alter information available in that administrator's browser session.
