CVE-2026-115394: Ghidra through 12.2 Denial of Service via BinaryField Memory Allocation

Published Oct 22, 2026
·
Updated

Ghidra through 12.2 contains an uncontrolled memory allocation vulnerability in BinaryField.read() that allows attackers to exhaust heap memory via an unchecked 32-bit length field. Attackers can persuade users to import a crafted GZF packed database file, triggering an OutOfMemoryError in PackedDatabase.open() that aborts the import and denies service.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Who is exposed to this issue?

Users of Ghidra through 12.2 are exposed when they import a crafted GZF packed database file. Exploitation requires persuading a user to perform the import.

2

What is the impact if exploitation succeeds?

The crafted file can cause unchecked memory allocation in BinaryField.read(), exhausting heap memory and triggering an OutOfMemoryError in PackedDatabase.open(). The import aborts, resulting in denial of service; no confidentiality or integrity impact is described.

3

Does an attacker need local access or credentials?

The stated vector is local, and no privileges are required. The attacker must provide a malicious GZF file and rely on user interaction to import it.
