CVE-2026-116489: Timescale pgvectorscale before 0.9.1 Type Confusion via Unqualified DiskANN Operator Classes

Published Oct 26, 2026
·
Updated

Timescale pgvectorscale before 0.9.1 contains a type confusion vulnerability that allows low-privileged database users to corrupt memory by shadowing pgvector's vector type or operators. Attackers with CREATE privilege on the vectorscale schema can pre-create shadow objects, then build and query DiskANN indexes over crafted values to cause out-of-bounds reads and writes, disclosing memory, crashing the server, or escalating privileges.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which users can realistically exploit this issue?

A low-privileged database user is in scope if they have CREATE privilege on the vectorscale schema. They can pre-create shadow objects that interfere with pgvector types or operators.

2

What must an attacker do after obtaining the required schema privilege?

The attacker must create shadow objects and then build and query DiskANN indexes using crafted values. The resulting type confusion can trigger out-of-bounds reads and writes.

3

How can I determine whether my deployment is affected?

Deployments running Timescale pgvectorscale versions before 0.9.1 are affected. Exposure additionally depends on whether untrusted or low-privileged users have CREATE privilege on the vectorscale schema.
