CVE-2026-118251: Highcharts: javascript: URL in credits.href runs script on click

Published Oct 28, 2026
·
Updated

Highcharts JS is a JavaScript charting library based on SVG. Prior to 11.4.9, 12.6.1, and 13.1.0, Highcharts assigns credits.href to the window location when the credits label is clicked without checking the URL against the allowed-scheme list. An attacker who controls chart configuration can provide a javascript URL and run script in the origin of the hosting page when a user clicks the credits label. Highcharts Stock, Maps, and Gantt are included because they ship from the same package. This issue is fixed in 11.4.9, 12.6.1 and 13.1.0.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Who is exposed to this issue?

Applications using Highcharts JS before 11.4.9, 12.6.1, or 13.1.0 are exposed if an attacker can control chart configuration, including the credits.href value. Highcharts Stock, Maps, and Gantt are also affected because they ship from the same package.

2

What must happen for exploitation to succeed?

An attacker must supply a javascript: URL as credits.href in chart configuration, and a user must click the chart's credits label. The script then runs in the origin of the page hosting the chart.

3

What versions contain the fix?

Upgrade to Highcharts version 11.4.9, 12.6.1, or 13.1.0, as appropriate for the version line in use.
