CVE-2026-119600: tcpflow through 1.6.1 Out-of-Bounds Read via TCP Demultiplexer Payload Length

Published Oct 30, 2026
·
Updated

tcpflow through 1.6.1 contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability that allows unauthenticated attackers to read process memory by sending packets with forged IP payload lengths. Attackers can inject crafted IPv4 or IPv6 TCP packets into captured traffic or pcap files to leak adjacent memory into reconstructed flow files or crash tcpflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which deployments are exposed to this issue?

Deployments using tcpflow through version 1.6.1 are exposed when they process captured traffic or pcap files that an attacker can inject crafted IPv4 or IPv6 TCP packets into.

2

What does an attacker need to exploit the vulnerability?

The attacker does not need authentication or user interaction. They need to introduce TCP packets with forged IP payload lengths into traffic captured by tcpflow or into a pcap file processed by tcpflow.

3

What could exploitation cause?

Malformed packets can cause tcpflow to read beyond expected bounds, potentially leaking adjacent process memory into reconstructed flow files. The same input can also crash tcpflow.
