When using public dashboards and direct data-sources, all direct data-sources' passwords are exposed despite not being used in dashboards.

No passwords of proxied data-sources are exposed. We encourage all direct data-sources to be converted to proxied data-sources as far as possible to improve your deployments' security.

Remediation

Recommended actions to resolve this vulnerability, in priority order.

  1. Configuration

    Convert direct data-sources to proxied data-sources to prevent their passwords from being exposed when dashboards are made public.

    direct data-sources connection_mode = proxied
  2. Compensating control

    Avoid making dashboards public while direct data-sources remain in use, or restrict access to public dashboards to trusted IPs/users at the application or network level to prevent password exposure.
