CVE-2026-43413: scsi: hisi_sas: Fix NULL pointer exception during user_scan()

Published May 8, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

scsi: hisisas: Fix NULL pointer exception during userscan()

userscan() invokes updated sasuserscan() for channel 0, and if successful, iteratively scans remaining channels (1 to shost->maxchannel) via scsiscanhostselected() in commit 37c4e72b0651 ("scsi: Fix sasuserscan() to handle wildcard and multi-channel scans"). However, hisisas supports only one channel, and the current value of maxchannel is 1. sasuserscan() for channel 1 will trigger the following NULL pointer exception:

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which systems are exposed to this issue?

Systems using the Linux kernel with the hisi_sas SCSI driver are relevant. The failure occurs because the driver supports one channel while its max_channel value permits scanning an additional channel.

2

What does an attacker need to trigger the failure?

The supplied vector indicates local access and low privileges are required, with no user interaction. Triggering user_scan() causes scanning of channel 1 after channel 0 succeeds, which can lead to a kernel NULL pointer dereference and availability impact.

3

How can I tell whether this issue has been triggered?

Affected systems may log a kernel NULL pointer dereference during user_scan(), including an inability to handle a kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000000008b0. The described outcome is a data abort while scanning the unsupported additional channel.
