CVE-2026-45856: RDMA/uverbs: Validate wqe_size before using it in ib_uverbs_post_send
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
RDMA/uverbs: Validate wqesize before using it in ibuverbspostsend
ibuverbspostsend() uses cmd.wqesize from userspace without any validation before passing it to kmalloc() and using the allocated buffer as struct ibuverbssendwr.
If a user provides a small wqesize value (e.g., 1), kmalloc() will succeed, but subsequent accesses to userwr->opcode, userwr->numsge, and other fields will read beyond the allocated buffer, resulting in an out-of-bounds read from kernel heap memory. This could potentially leak sensitive kernel information to userspace.
Additionally, providing an excessively large wqesize can trigger a WARNING in the memory allocation path, as reported by syzkaller.
This is inconsistent with ibuverbsunmarshallrecv() which properly validates that wqesize >= sizeof(struct ibuverbsrecvwr) before proceeding.
Add the same validation for ibuverbspostsend() to ensure wqesize is at least sizeof(struct ibuverbssendwr).

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can exploit this issue?
A local user with the low privileges needed to invoke the RDMA uverbs send-posting interface is required. The attack vector is local; the provided data does not indicate remote exploitation.
What does an attacker need to provide to trigger the flaw?
The attacker needs to supply a crafted wqe_size value to ib_uverbs_post_send(). A value smaller than struct ib_uverbs_send_wr can cause out-of-bounds kernel-heap reads, while an excessively large value can trigger a memory-allocation warning.
What is the potential impact?
Out-of-bounds reads may expose sensitive kernel information to userspace. The issue can also cause warnings in the kernel memory-allocation path.
What should be checked to determine whether systems are affected?
Check whether the installed Linux kernel includes the validation that rejects wqe_size values smaller than sizeof(struct ib_uverbs_send_wr) in ib_uverbs_post_send(). The supplied references identify stable kernel commits containing the fix.
