CVE-2026-46449: OS Command Injection
The Akamai Guardicore Platform Agent (GPA) before 7.4 for macOS is affected by a local privilege escalation vulnerability within the wapptunneld component. The vulnerability is caused by a lack of input validation when the service uses network interface names to execute system utilities, resulting in command injection. An unprivileged local user with permissions to modify network interface names can exploit this by renaming a network interface to include a malicious shell payload via System Settings. When the "Log out from your IdP" action is subsequently triggered, the wapptunneld service processes the poisoned interface name, leading to the execution of arbitrary commands with root privileges.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who can exploit this vulnerability?
An unprivileged local macOS user can exploit it if they have permission to modify network interface names. Exploitation also requires that the user can trigger the "Log out from your IdP" action after renaming an interface.
Which installations are affected?
Akamai Guardicore Platform Agent installations on macOS before version 7.4 are affected. The vulnerable component is wapptunneld.
What is the impact of successful exploitation?
A successful attack causes wapptunneld to execute attacker-controlled commands with root privileges. This can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected host.
How can administrators identify a potential exploitation attempt?
Investigate unexpected or suspicious network interface name changes, particularly names containing shell-like payloads. Correlate those changes with use of the "Log out from your IdP" action and unexpected root-level command execution by wapptunneld.
