CVE-2026-54710: FreePBX: Authenticated Superfecta Arbitrary PHP Code Execution (RCE via Unsafe File Inclusion)

Published Sep 28, 2026
·
Updated

FreePBX is an open source IP PBX. Prior to versions 16.0.40 and 17.0.7, a critical remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability exists in the superfecta module due to unsafe inclusion of arbitrary PHP files, allowing authenticated attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code on the server with the privileges of the web server user. Authentication with a known username is required. The vulnerability is rooted in the options and saveoptions cases in the Superfecta module's AJAX handler. The code dynamically includes PHP files from the sources/ directory based on user-supplied input. This allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code when combined with arbitrary directory creation (e.g., via the backup module) and file uploads that reveal full paths (e.g., via the soundlang module). This issue has been patched in versions 16.0.40 and 17.0.7.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which FreePBX installations need to be updated?

Installations running FreePBX versions earlier than 16.0.40 or 17.0.7 are affected. The issue is patched in versions 16.0.40 and 17.0.7.

2

What level of access does an attacker need?

An attacker must be authenticated with a known username. Successful exploitation executes arbitrary PHP code with the privileges of the web server user.

3

What conditions are needed to turn the unsafe file inclusion into code execution?

The exploit relies on user-controlled inclusion of PHP files from the Superfecta module's sources/ directory. The described attack chain combines arbitrary directory creation, such as through the backup module, with uploads that disclose full filesystem paths, such as through the soundlang module.
