CVE-2026-64341: USB: iowarrior: fix use-after-free on disconnect race
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
USB: iowarrior: fix use-after-free on disconnect race
mutexunlock() may access the mutex structure after releasing the lock and therefore cannot be used to manage lifetime of objects directly (unlike spinlocks and refcounts). [1][2]
Use a kref to release the driver data to avoid use-after-free in mutexunlock() when release() races with disconnect().
[1] a51749ab34d9 ("locking/mutex: Document that mutexunlock() is non-atomic") [2] 2b9d9e0a9ba0 ("locking/mutex: Clarify that mutexunlock(), and most other sleeping locks, can still use the lock object after it's unlocked")

Use a kref to manage release of the USB iowarrior driver data, preventing use-after-free in mutex_unlock() when release() races with disconnect().
Event History
Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
Exposure is limited to Linux systems using the USB iowarrior driver and encountering a race between device release and USB disconnect. The listed affected software includes the Linux kernel and Ubuntu kernel variants for FIPS, AWS, Azure, and GCP.
What level of access is needed to exploit it?
The supplied CVSS vector indicates local access and low privileges are required, with no user interaction required. The issue is associated with the release() and disconnect() race in the driver.
What is the potential impact if the race is triggered?
The vulnerability is a use-after-free condition. The supplied CVSS metrics rate confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact as high.
