CVE-2026-70388: Memory Corruption via Integer Underflow in Message Length Validation
SOEM version 2.0.0 and earlier contains vulnerabilities where a malicious device on the network can send specially crafted messages that cause the master to write data outside allocated memory boundaries. The software performs arithmetic on message length values without proper validation, allowing negative or extremely large values to bypass safety checks. This can corrupt memory and potentially allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the master system.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which systems are exposed to this issue?
SOEM 2.0.0 and earlier are affected. Exposure requires a master system running the affected software and communicating with a malicious device on the network.
What does an attacker need to exploit the vulnerability?
An attacker needs the ability to act as, or introduce, a malicious network device that can send specially crafted messages to the SOEM master. No privileges or user interaction are required according to the supplied vector.
What is the likely impact on an affected master?
Crafted message lengths can bypass validation and cause writes outside allocated memory boundaries. This can corrupt memory and may allow arbitrary code execution on the master system, with integrity and availability impact as well as limited confidentiality impact.
