CVE-2026-73461: Security Advisory 0163
On affected EOS platforms with AAA-based gRPC authorization enabled for OpenConfig, gRPC requests of an authenticated user to OpenConfig may use the wrong privilege level, resulting in an authorization using the wrong AAA method list. This does not impact non-gRPC OpenConfig requests such as NETCONF.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which deployments are exposed to this issue?
Affected EOS platforms are exposed only when AAA-based gRPC authorization is enabled for OpenConfig. Non-gRPC OpenConfig requests, including NETCONF, are not impacted.
What does an attacker need to exploit it?
The issue involves gRPC requests made by an authenticated user to OpenConfig. The supplied vector indicates that high privileges are required and user interaction is not required.
What is the practical impact of successful exploitation?
A gRPC OpenConfig request may be authorized using the wrong AAA method list because the authenticated user is assigned the wrong privilege level. The supplied severity vector indicates potential high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability, including across a security boundary.
