Frequently Asked Questions

1

Who can exploit this issue?

An authenticated WordPress user with contributor privileges or higher can exploit it. The issue is relevant where untrusted or lower-privileged users are allowed to create content.

2

What content can be disclosed?

A contributor or higher-privileged user can duplicate private or password-protected posts into a draft they control. This exposes the copied post's content and metadata.

3

What conditions are required for exploitation?

The attacker needs a WordPress account with at least contributor privileges and access to the vulnerable Smart Post functionality. The target post can be private or password protected because the duplication operation does not validate its type, ownership, or status.

4

Which plugin versions are affected?

Smart Post versions before 4.0.8 are affected, including versions 4.0.0 through 4.0.7.
