CVE-2026-86461: FV Flowplayer Video Player <= 7.5.54.7212 - Authenticated (Subscriber+) Arbitrary File Upload via 'video_url' Parameter

Published Oct 14, 2026
·
Updated

The FV Flowplayer Video Player plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Limited Arbitrary File Upload in all versions up to, and including, 7.5.54.7212 via the checkmimetype function. This is due to incomplete file type validation in the checkmimetype function — while some extension checking is present, it can be bypassed, allowing attacker-supplied remote file content to be written with insufficient extension enforcement and no MIME check or WordPress upload helper. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to upload files that may be executable, which makes remote code execution possible. Exploitation requires the plugin's 'profile videos on bio' option to be enabled, as this causes the nonce to be emitted on the subscriber-accessible profile page; without this setting, authenticated users below Editor cannot obtain the required nonce.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which users can exploit this issue?

An authenticated WordPress user with Subscriber-level access or higher can exploit it, provided they can obtain the required nonce. Users below Editor can obtain that nonce from their profile page only when the plugin's "profile videos on bio" option is enabled.

2

Is the default configuration affected?

Exploitation specifically requires the plugin's "profile videos on bio" option to be enabled. Without that setting, authenticated users below Editor cannot obtain the required nonce needed for the attack.

3

What is the likely impact of successful exploitation?

An attacker may upload attacker-controlled files, including files that may be executable. This can lead to remote code execution with high confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.

4

What should be done if the plugin cannot be patched immediately?

Disable the plugin's "profile videos on bio" option to prevent Subscriber-level users from obtaining the required nonce through the profile page. Also review the site for suspicious uploaded files, particularly executable or unexpected file types.
