CVE-2026-87666: OS Command Injection

Published Oct 8, 2026
·
Updated

An OS command injection vulnerability exists in the time and zone management subsystem of Brocade Fabric OS versions before 9.2.2d and 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1. When updating system timezone settings via the REST API or configuration download routines, the system fails to sanitize input values before processing them in underlying shell execution routines. An authenticated user with low-privilege administrative access can exploit this vulnerability by submitting a crafted timezone string containing shell metacharacters. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to escape the restricted management environment and execute arbitrary shell commands with elevated privileges.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which systems are affected?

Brocade Fabric OS versions before 9.2.2d and versions 10.0.0 through 10.0.0a1 are affected. The vulnerable functionality is in time and zone management when timezone settings are updated through the REST API or configuration download routines.

2

What access does an attacker need to exploit this issue?

An attacker needs authenticated low-privilege administrative access. They can submit a crafted timezone value containing shell metacharacters; no user interaction is required.

3

What is the impact of successful exploitation?

Successful exploitation lets the attacker escape the restricted management environment and execute arbitrary shell commands with elevated privileges. This can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the vulnerable system.

4

What should be prioritized for remediation?

Update affected systems to a fixed Fabric OS release, including 9.2.2d or later for the 9.2 branch. For 10.0.0 deployments, the affected range includes releases through 10.0.0a1.
