Frequently Asked Questions

1

What must an attacker do to exploit this issue?

The attacker must cause the target to visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. Exploitation relies on a user-supplied path being processed by BusyBox's libarchive component without proper validation.

2

What level of access does exploitation provide?

Successful exploitation allows arbitrary file creation in the context of the current user. The provided information does not indicate that the vulnerability directly grants execution or access beyond that user's permissions.

3

How can I determine whether a system may be affected?

Systems using BusyBox with the libarchive component may be affected. Review whether users or automated workflows can open untrusted archive-related files or visit untrusted content that could cause such files to be processed.
