CVE-2026-93089: firmware: arm_scmi: Free transport channel on IDR failure

Published Sep 17, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

firmware: armscmi: Free transport channel on IDR failure

If transport channel setup succeeds but the following IDR insertion fails, the error path destroys the transport device and frees the channel info without invoking the transport cleanup callback.

Call chanfree() before destroying the device so transport specific resources such as IRQs, mailbox channels and mapped shared memory are released consistently with the normal teardown path.

  19. Compensating control

In firmware: arm_scmi, call chan_free() before destroying the transport device, including the IDR insertion failure path, so transport-specific resources such as IRQs, mailbox channels, and mapped shared memory are released consistently.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Under what condition can the resource leak occur?

It occurs only when SCMI transport channel setup succeeds but insertion of that channel into the IDR subsequently fails. The affected error path can leave transport-specific resources, including IRQs, mailbox channels, and mapped shared memory, unreleased.

2

What remediation is provided by the fix?

The fix invokes chan_free() before destroying the transport device when IDR insertion fails. This makes the failure path release transport resources consistently with normal channel teardown.
