CVE-2026-93430: GD Rating System <= 3.7.1 - Unauthenticated Stored Cross-Site Scripting via 'title' and 'url' Render Args in gdrts_live_handler AJAX

Updated

The GD Rating System plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via 'title' and 'url' Render Args in gdrtslivehandler AJAX in all versions up to, and including, 3.7.1 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Although the AJAX action requires a per-item nonce, that nonce is publicly emitted in the page's <script class="gdrts-rating-data"> JSON block on every page rendering the rating item, making it obtainable by any unauthenticated visitor and therefore not an authentication barrier.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Who can exploit this issue?

Any unauthenticated visitor can obtain the required per-item nonce from the gdrts-rating-data JSON block rendered on pages containing a rating item. No account or other privileges are required.

2

Which sites and pages are exposed?

Sites using GD Rating System version 3.7.1 or earlier are affected. Exposure applies to pages that render a rating item, because those pages publicly emit the nonce needed for the gdrts_live_handler AJAX action.

3

What is the impact if exploitation succeeds?

An attacker can store arbitrary web script through the title and url render arguments. The script executes when a user visits an injected page, potentially affecting users in another security context.

4

How can I determine whether an affected page exposes the nonce?

Inspect the page source or rendered markup for a script element with the class gdrts-rating-data. The JSON block associated with a rendered rating item contains the per-item nonce used by the AJAX action.
