In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

wifi: mac80211: don't warn when an IBSS has no channel to scan

ieee80211requestibssscan() warns when regulatory leaves no allowed channel, but that can happen as the regdomain can change while IBSS is operating, and it can continue to operate briefly during the 60s grace period until it's shut down.

Just remove the warning in this case.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which systems are affected by this behavior?

Systems using mac80211 IBSS mode can encounter it when a regulatory-domain change leaves no channels allowed for scanning. The described condition occurs while the IBSS is already operating.

2

Does the IBSS remain active after all scan channels become disallowed?

It can continue operating briefly during a 60-second grace period. It is then shut down.

3

How should operators interpret the warning in this situation?

A warning caused by an IBSS having no channel to scan after a regulatory change is an expected condition described by this fix. The resolution removes that warning rather than changing the grace-period shutdown behavior.
