CVE-2026-99067: btrfs: scrub: fix local_root reference leak in scrub_print_warning_inode()

Published Oct 23, 2026
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

btrfs: scrub: fix localroot reference leak in scrubprintwarninginode()

When pathsfrominode() fails, scrubprintwarninginode() jumps to err without dropping the reference taken by btrfsgetfsroot(), leaking a reference to the root every time path resolution fails while printing scrub warnings. Every other error and success path of the function drops the reference.

Drop the reference on the pathsfrominode() failure path too.

Affected Software

1 affected component
Linux Linux kernel

Remediation

Recommended actions to resolve this vulnerability, in priority order.

  1. Compensating control

In the Linux kernel Btrfs scrub function scrub_print_warning_inode(), drop the local_root reference on the paths_from_inode() failure path before jumping to err, matching the reference release performed on other error and success paths.
