DEBIAN-CVE-2026-111253: Debian/dnf5 vulnerability

Published Nov 5, 2026
·
Updated

A flaw was found in dnf5daemon-server. Session methods on dynamically exported D-Bus session objects do not verify that the caller is the unique sender that created the session. A local attacker can modify another user's live package-management session and replace its resolved transaction plan. If the legitimate session party later authorizes execution, the root daemon may apply the attacker-chosen package operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Is remote access sufficient to exploit this issue?

The issue is described as exploitable by a local attacker. The provided information does not indicate a remote attack path.

2

When does the attacker-controlled transaction run with root privileges?

Changing another user's session does not itself execute the package operations. The root daemon may apply the attacker-chosen plan only if the legitimate session party later authorizes execution.

3

Which package-management activity is at risk?

Live package-management sessions using dynamically exported D-Bus session objects are at risk, because session methods do not verify that requests come from the sender that created the session.
