REDHAT-BUG-2529847: Medium severity DPDK DPDK vulnerability

Published Sep 8, 2026
·
Updated

A flaw was found in DPDK lib/vhost vhost-crypto. preparewritebackdata() can fail after allocating a write-back node and before setting next to NULL. freewbdata() then recurses on an uninitialized next pointer, which can hang or crash the host vhost-crypto process.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

What conditions are required to trigger the failure?

The vulnerable path requires prepare_write_back_data() to fail after it has allocated a write-back node but before that node's next pointer is initialized to NULL. Cleanup through free_wb_data() can then follow the uninitialized pointer recursively.

2

What is the likely operational impact?

The host vhost-crypto process can hang or crash. The provided information does not establish data exposure, privilege escalation, or remote exploitability.

3

How can I determine whether an incident may be related to this flaw?

Investigate hangs or crashes of the host vhost-crypto process, particularly where failure handling in the write-back-data path occurred. The supplied data provides no version, configuration, or log signature for definitive identification.
