Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: sh: cpuinfo: Fix a warning for CONFIGCPUMASKOFFSTACK When CONFIGCPUMASKOFFSTACK and CONFIGDEBUGPERCPUMAPS are selected, cpumaxbitswarn() generates a runtime warning similar as below when showing /proc/cpuinfo. Fix this by using nrcpuids (the runtime limit) instead of NRCPUS to iterate CPUs. Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which configurations are affected?

The warning occurs when both CONFIG_CPUMASK_OFFSTACK and CONFIG_DEBUG_PER_CPU_MAPS are selected in the kernel. It is associated with the SH cpuinfo implementation and is triggered while showing /proc/cpuinfo.

2

How can I tell whether a system is encountering this issue?

Check kernel logs for a runtime WARNING referencing cpu_max_bits_warn() and show_cpuinfo when /proc/cpuinfo is read. The provided example shows the warning during system operation with PID 1.

3

What access would an attacker need to trigger the condition?

The supplied vector identifies this as a local, low-complexity issue requiring low privileges. The triggering operation is displaying /proc/cpuinfo.

4

What is the expected security impact?

The vector indicates no confidentiality or integrity impact and a low availability impact. The described behavior is a kernel runtime warning rather than the disclosure or modification of data.
