UBUNTU-CVE-2022-49058: Buffer Overflow
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: cifs: potential buffer overflow in handling symlinks Smatch printed a warning: arch/x86/crypto/poly1305glue.c:198 poly1305updatearch() error: memcpy() 'dctx->buf' too small (16 vs u32max) It's caused because Smatch marks 'linklen' as untrusted since it comes from sscanf(). Add a check to ensure that 'linklen' is not larger than the size of the 'linkstr' buffer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Ubuntu systems are potentially affected?
Systems using the listed Ubuntu kernel packages may be affected: linux, linux-fips, linux-azure, linux-aws, linux-gcp, linux-oracle, linux-kvm, and linux-aws-fips.
What does an attacker need to exploit this issue?
The issue is reachable over the network and has low attack complexity, with no privileges required. Exploitation requires user interaction, according to the supplied severity vector.
What is the impact of successful exploitation?
The reported impact is availability only: the severity vector indicates high availability impact and no stated impact to confidentiality or integrity. The underlying flaw is a buffer overflow in CIFS symlink handling.
What condition does the fix enforce?
The fix checks that the parsed symlink length, link_len, does not exceed the size of the link_str buffer before it is used.
