UBUNTU-CVE-2022-49858: Medium severity ubuntu/linux-hwe-edge vulnerability

Published May 1, 2025
·
Updated

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: octeontx2-pf: Fix SQE threshold checking Current way of checking available SQE count which is based on HW updated SQB count could result in driver submitting an SQE even before CQE for the previously transmitted SQE at the same index is processed in NAPI resulting losing SKB pointers, hence a leak. Fix this by checking a consumer index which is updated once CQE is processed.

Frequently Asked Questions

1

Which systems are realistically exposed to this issue?

Systems using one of the listed Ubuntu kernel packages and the octeontx2-pf network driver are relevant. The flaw is in transmit queue handling for that driver, so systems not using that driver are not indicated as affected by the provided data.

2

What access would an attacker need to exploit this?

The supplied severity vector indicates local access, low privileges, low attack complexity, and no user interaction. It also indicates that an additional attack requirement is present (AT:P).

3

What is the impact if the issue is triggered?

The driver can lose SKB pointers when it submits a transmit queue entry before the completion entry for the previous entry at the same index has been processed. This causes a memory leak and is reflected in the availability-only impact in the supplied vector.
