UBUNTU-CVE-2024-47670: High severity ubuntu/linux vulnerability
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ocfs2: add bounds checking to ocfs2xattrfindentry() Add a paranoia check to make sure it doesn't stray beyond valid memory region containing ocfs2 xattr entries when scanning for a match. It will prevent out-of-bound access in case of crafted images.

Frequently Asked Questions
What systems are realistically exposed to this issue?
Ubuntu systems using the listed Linux kernel packages are exposed when they process an OCFS2 filesystem image containing crafted extended-attribute entries. This includes the standard, FIPS, AWS, Azure, and GCP kernel package variants listed.
What must an attacker do to trigger the vulnerability?
An attacker needs to cause the kernel to scan a crafted OCFS2 image with malformed extended-attribute entries. The supplied data indicates user interaction is required, consistent with a user mounting or otherwise processing such an image.
What is the likely impact if exploitation succeeds?
The bounds-checking flaw can cause an out-of-bounds memory access while searching OCFS2 extended-attribute entries. The provided vector identifies availability impact as high, with no stated confidentiality or integrity impact.
